StreetTeam reviews Pete Escovedo

27 January 2019

Pete Escovedo and his band performed at the Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles. The show began promptly at 7:45pm and Pete was on fire playing tunes from his amazing new CD called Back To The Bay.

Pete Escovedo is the father of the incomparable Sheila E. She learned how to play drums mimicking her father’s moves at a very young age. Sunday night her father performed as graceful as he has been since his days with Santana. PHeis 83 years old and can still play a 2 hour set followed by ANOTHER 2 hour for the evening. Yes, two shows last night for this timbale pro!!

The 9 piece band Pete performs with includes a 4 piece horn section and his two talented sons Juan Escovedo (on congas) and Peter Michael Escovedo (on drums). The limelight was on Pete last night, and the songs were completely amazing live!

Pete invited a guest singer Brianna to come up and sing to his renditions of “Let’s Stay Together”, “Never Too Much”, “I Can’t Help It”, and “I Want You”.  Her voice was smooth and sultry bringing a great R&B style to the Latin Jazz evening.

Pete would also make some funny jokes and remarks between songs which kept the crowd laughing and smiling throughout the evening.

You can’t go wrong watching Pete Escovedo and his band, they always give a great performance, and Pete is magical on stage…he still has it!!! All in all, a wonderful show that gets you up on your feet, to grab someone close by and dance the night away to great Latin Jazz!!!
